Summer Camp for Kids and Teenagers 2018

Maraya Art Center’s Summer Camp is the perfect way to start summer 2018. Register to enjoy Maraya’s entertaining workshops, where young creatives play with different colors and use their hands to experiment with new objects. Enroll your kids and teenagers aged 8-16 in the program and unleash their creativity. With a total of eight workshops, each day offers a different workshop providing a new artistic experience.

 

Week 1:

Summer on a Canvas by Skribl Box: Sunday 15 July, 2018

This workshop presented by skribl box allows children to create summer elements on a pop art background using various painting techniques, like stenciling, stamping and texture painting. With explanation on color theory and how to create great color combinations. Participants will create unique artworks that they can take and display at home.

Tie-dye: Monday 16 July, 2018

“Shibori” in Japanese is what is commonly thought of in the West as "tie-die". It involves binding certain sections of a cloth to achieve a bold and spiraling pattern. Learn simple tie-dye and Shibori techniques to create one-of-a-kind textures, colors and patterns on all sorts of dye-able clothing.

Paint your own T-Shirt by Asami Art: Tuesday 17 July, 2018

In this workshop children will enjoy painting a comic character on a plain T-Shirt. Participants will prepare and plan the drawing and choose the colors. Then they will start with the outlines of their characters and color it. The children will have a few T-Shirts ready for them to get some inspiration from.

Marbling: Wednesday 18 July, 2018

Marbling is often employed as a writing surface for calligraphy and used especially for book covers and papers in bookbinding and stationery. Learn the astonishing ancient art of marbling and how to use marble paint to create unique patterns.

 

Week 2:

Marine life mixed media on Canvas: Sunday 22 July, 2018

Explore various media while making this underwater marine life project on canvas. The participants will learn about the characteristics of various materials and create different textures: from wood to shells and paper to inks, this project has plenty to keep you captivated for the entire session.

Cyanotype: Monday 23 July, 2018

In this workshop, we’ll show some examples of what’s possible with the cyanotype process and give an introduction to the chemicals and equipment needed. Participants will discover one of the oldest photographic printmaking processes that harnesses the power of the sun. Furthermore, they will create their very own prints using the effects of the sun.

Ceramic Tiles by Yadawei: Tuesday 24 July, 2018

This is a practical one-day intensive workshop focused on developing decoration skills on ceramics. Participants will learn how to transfer a 2D image onto a 3D tile using a variety of techniques. This workshop is themed in celebration of the Year of Zayed.

Clay Animation: Wednesday 25 July, 2018

Participants will be introduced to stop-motion animation and its basics. They will learn how to animate clay and the necessary techniques. In addition, participants will be taught on how story telling can be used when working with clay.

About Asami Art:

Asma Al Remeithi is an Emirati Artist. Asma studied at Zayed University and received her Bachelor's Degree in Integrated Communication. Art was always her passion since she was little and Japanese Animation and Comics interested her most of all. She started drawing from a very young age and developed her skills during her university years. She has created many works featuring merchandise, graphic novels and paintings. In 2016 her comic story “Turning Point” received the Abu Dhabi Comic Award from the Abu Dhabi Music and Art Foundation (ADMAF).
