Da’era (Circle)

Da’eraacts like a semipermeable membrane composed of thousands of origami-style folded coffee filters, a material that features prominently in the artist’s practice. Viewers are invited to experience the space between by entering inside and by appreciating the pathway towards the circle and a conscious mindset about time and space.

“I prefer an understated path to understanding. The Japanese principle of ‘Ma’ is fundamental to my practice. It is the fullness of silence. The intuitive placing of objects, created lines and threads direct my thought. Repetitive motions and actions allow for a meditative work ethic. The minimal palette allows for a pause, a silence to be in place.

Spaces and intervals between the objects and the importance of the circle - all assist the viewer in entering to gain peace, and, within the contemplative space, to go beyond the surface illusion and loose oneself.”

Following Abu Dhabi Art’s theme of “sustainability”, the artwork features repurposed coffee filters in an artistic way. Mindfulness in considering the beauty of everyday items and a minimalist life style are brought to the fore.
