Bedouinism meets nomadic millennialism, holistically captures Ahmad Al Areef Al Dhaheri’s work. The artist continuously grasps on to his nomadic roots to draw inspiration from the constant change of his surroundings. He integrates his shifting locations with the Bedouin ideology that things can serve multitude of purposes. Thus, the artist uses technology within his art to illustrate the different facets of the historical past to today’s generation.
Al Areef’s artworks demonstrates how our lives are an extension of our ancestry and the present is the accumulation of the traditions and heritage that have transcended through time. It often tells a story, that despite the effects of global cultural interaction, we remain identifiable through iconic symbols of our history. His works are characterized by the use of specific moments be it celebrations or everyday moments to reference our individuality and the uniqueness wepossess.
His work for the past few years has used iconic imagery to deliver the profoundness of the UAE to the contemporary culture of today. He uses various techniques including kaleidoscope effects to embed the radiance of national symbols such as traditional festivities, treasured desert animals, harsh desert landscape among others to visually represent historical knowledge.
Throughout the UAE’s tidal wave of a transformation, Al Areef has and will continue to use art to capture, define and retell the tales of then, now and forever.
